CHAPTER ONE
My mother is a good storyteller. She tells short and interesting stories. She has the knack for describing a scene vividly as if she was there when it happened. Moreover, when making emphasis, she gesticulates by stabbing the air with her fingers in a most pleasant way. We always like her fables, wonder-tales and stories of events that happened long ago when we were not yet born.
On a Monday evening after a busy day's work, my father, mother, brothers and sisters were seated under the shade of the almond tree in front of our compound. It was a hot evening and we were all relaxing with some cold refreshing soft drinks. My mother was having her favourite Goldspot, the fun shine drink. It was now getting dark with the bright moonlight peeping out from behind the clouds on us and we were all ready for another round of storytelling.
“Children, do you know why we have a land tortoise and water turtle? Mother asked picking up her bottle of Goldspot.
